Westell WireSpeed 2200 Modem Firmware Connected to Router Upgrade Process



Note: Please print out these instructions to aid you in the upgrade process

Part I — Download the Upgrade File

1. Go to http://download.verizon.net/webdownload/drivers/A90-220015_VER1_06_53.upg and download the upgrade file, A90-220015_VER1_06_53.upg
a. The following window will appear:



2. Click on the Save button to save the file on your computer
a. The following window will appear:



NOTE: Make sure the block to the right of the Save in: box will save the file in a location you'll remember so that you can easily locate the file after the download has completed. It is recommended that you save the file to your Desktop and move the file to another location after the download has been completed if you do not wish to keep the file on your Desktop.

3. When you are satisfied with the save location, click on the Save button
a. The following window will appear:



4. The file download will progress from 0% to 100%
a. Make sure you check the box to the left of Close this dialog box when download completes

5. When the download completes, you should see the following icon on your Desktop:



You have now completed the download portion of the firmware upgrade process. The next portion of the process requires that you log into your Westell WireSpeed 2200 modem's OSD (On Screen Display). From the OSD you will be able to import the upgrade file and complete the firmware upgrade. In order to complete this step of the process, you will need to know the modem Username and Password. If you are not sure, try using the same username and password you use with your Verizon Online DSL service.

Part II — Installing the Upgrade

1. Turn off and unplug your network
a. Turn off the Westell 2200 modem, your router, and your computer.
b. Disconnect your Westell 2200 modem from your router by unplugging the Ethernet cable between the modem and the router.
c. Plug the Ethernet cable from your modem into the Ethernet jack in your computer.
d. Turn on the Westell 2200 modem and wait for the Power and DSL lights to glow steady green.
e. Using the tip of a pencil, reset your modem by pressing the small white button next to the power jack in the back of the modem.


Note: Although you will lose any modem settings you may have configured manually, this step is required to ensure that your modem works with your router.
f. Wait for the Power and DSL lights to glow steady green.
g. Turn on your computer.

2. Set up your Westell 2200 modem with a new administrative user name and password
a. Open Internet Explorer or another Web browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. A login screen appears.


b. In the User name field, type admin.
c. In the Password field, type password, and then click OK.
d. A Westell screen appears prompting you to change your Administrative Name and password.


e. In the Enter Administrative Name field, enter admin.
f. In the Enter Administrative Password field, enter a new password.
g. In the Verify Administrative Password field, enter your new password again. Write down your password in a safe place for future reference.
h. Click Change to save your new administrative name and password to the Westell 2200 modem.


i. A confirmation window appears to make sure you want to change the user name and password. Click OK.


j. The Getting Started screen appears. Click Cancel.
k. The Westell Connection Overview screen appears.




l. From the Maintenance navigation bar, select Update Device. The Update Device window appears.


m. In the User name field, enter admin.
n. In the Password field, type your new password, and then click OK.

3. Upgrade the Westell 2200 software


a. Select local update now.


b. Select Browse to locate the update file.


c. Select the down arrow next to Look in. Scroll up and select Desktop to find the A90-220015_VER1_06_53.upg file that you downloaded in Part 1.
d. Double click the A90-220015_VER1_06_53.upg file, and then select Open.
e. The Software Upgrade window opens.


f. Select upload file.
g. After the upload is complete, the following window appears.


h. The Getting Started screen appears. Click Cancel.


i. After 15 seconds, your modem automatically resets.
j. After the modem resets, the Westell home screen appears.


k. From the Configuration navigation bar, select VC Configuration.


l. Select the edit button next to PPPoE. The VC 1 Configuration pop-up window appears.


m. From the Protocol drop down list, select Bridge. The VC 1 Configuration screen updates with the Bridge Protocol setting.

n. Select set VC.


o. A confirmation window appears to make sure you keep the Bridge VC configuration. Select OK.


p. A message box appears to ask if you want to reset your modem now. Select OK.


q. The Resetting Modem Please Wait screen appears as the modem resets.


r. After the modem resets, the Getting Started screen appears. Click Cancel.


s. From the Configuration navigation bar, select VC Configuration. The VC Configuration screen appears.


t. Verify that the Protocol column lists Bridge and not PPPoE.
u. Close the browser window to complete the upgrade process.


4. Reconnect your modem, your router, and your computer.
a. Turn off your Westell 2200 modem and your computer.
b. Disconnect your Westell 2200 modem from your computer by unplugging the Ethernet cable from the computer.
c. Connect the Westell 2200 modem to your router using the Ethernet cable.
d. Connect your router to your computer using another Ethernet cable.
e. Turn on the Westell 2200 modem and your router.
f. Wait for the Power, DSL and Ethernet lights to glow steady green.
g. Wait until the light on your router indicates that it is connected to the Internet.
h. Turn on your computer.
